FAQs

Will my child just "grow out of it"?

Some children may show slower communication development then appear to "catch up by themselves". However, most children who are developing slower than their peers will continue to develop more slowly. This is likely to then impact on their future ability to access learning in the classroom, social interactions and self-esteem.

We always advise checking with a speech therapist if you have concerns about your child's communication development.

Do I need a referral to access Communication Champions?

Will my insurance cover my visit?

Speech pathology sessions can be rebated through private health insurance, please check with your private health insurance provider to see if your policy includes cover for speech pathology services.

Will Medicare cover my visit?

Your GP can issue a Care Plan that provides a partial rebate for 5 sessions (per calendar year) that are claimed through Medicare. In order to be eligible for a Care Plan, your child must present with a chronic condition / complex care needs, as determined by your GP.

Are you NDIS registered?

Communication Champions is not a registered NDIS provider; however we are able to provide support for families that have NDIS funding and are either self-managed or plan-managed.

Can you see my child at school/ childcare centre?

As a mobile therapy service, Communication Champions is able to provide support in school and childcare settings as long as consent has been given to withdraw your child and the school/ childcare centre is able to provide a space to carry out speech therapy sessions. As Communication Champions is not employed by the school/ childcare centre, it will be the parents' responsibility to make these arrangements with the school/ childcare centre.

How many sessions will my child need?

This will depend on your child's individual communication needs and their response to therapy.
A standard therapy session lasts 45 minutes. Most of this time will be spent working directly with your child but will include some time to discuss your child’s progress and ongoing therapy activities to work on at home.
You are free to withdraw your child from therapy at any time.

Do I need to attend the sessions with my child?

We strongly encourage parents to attend therapy sessions so that the speech therapist can demonstrate therapy activities and strategies to help your child. The interactions that you have with your child on a daily basis are key to enabling your child to make progress. If your child is seen at childcare/school, you are also encouraged to attend where possible.

How much do sessions cost?

Please see our fees & charges for more information.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require 48 hours notice to cancel booked appointments. The full service fee will be charged for cancellations made after this time. Exceptions will be made in emergency circumstances at the discretion of the therapist.
